Peter Gabriel and Johnny Depp support Imprisoned for Art campaign

17 11 2016

Activist group The Voice Project has launched its Imprisoned for Art campaign, starring singer/songwriter Peter Gabriel and actor Johnny Depp alongside a range of artists including Pussy Riot's Nadya Tolokonnikova and singer/songwriter Tom Morello.

The campaign features mug shots of the stars paired with names of artists currently imprisoned around the world, to raise awareness about freedom of expression. Gabriel commented 'When I first started travelling around the world (for the Human Rights Now tour in 1988), I was shocked to discover in how many countries there were artists who were in jail, or who had been tortured or killed for doing exactly the same thing that I do - writing and singing songs. The story of Victor Jara in Chile was a real inspiration. We have to defend and protect those with the courage to speak out'. The campaign can be viewed at http://voiceproject.org/ and t-shirts featuring the mug shots can be purchased at https://represent.com/store/thevoiceproject.
